Movie Poster Analysis

On the movie poster for red road I have noticed that the title is prominently featured underneath the main image in big letters, which are very clear to read. The main character’s face is taking up more than 70 % of the poster space however evoking melancholy feelings which says a lot about the movie and her character. There is an unusual collaboration of colors between brown and yellow setting a depressed but somehow nostalgic mood for the film with the title character looking down as if she is grieving. This sets the tone for how the film will play out. The poster also includes the name of the director just above the title and also awards (in this case an award from the Cannes Film Festival) it has received. I think this poster is very successful in persuading people to watch the movie because it connects with people on an emotional level and this is why audiences are attracted to this movie.
